Social Media Gets Their Attention – Your Web Site Gets The Sale

27 January 2012

After all the fuss with Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and other social media platforms over the last couple of years, it’s interesting to see that the humble Web site is making a comeback. Why? Because business owners realize their Web site is their most powerful lead conversion tool. You might use other things for lead generation – in other words, getting traffic to your Web site – but it’s your Web site that converts them from “just looking” to “ready to do business”.

Internet marketing expert Avinash Kaushik puts it beautifully like this:

“Don’t write checks with Social Media that your Web site can’t cash.”

So what goes into a high-quality Web site?

The secret is to understand that everybody who visits your Web site is asking four key questions:

  1. Why this? What are the benefits for me?
  2. Why you? What is your authority to make these claims?
  3. Why now? What is the urgency for me to take action?
  4. Why me? Why is this the right fit for me?

They need to answer all four questions before they will be willing to buy (whatever “buying” means for your business – e.g. buying a product, phoning you, booking a date, registering for an event,…).

So put yourself in your Web site visitor’s shoes, sit in front of their desk, take control of their mouse, and visit your Web site with their frame of mind. And let’s look at those four questions from their viewpoint…

Why This (Benefits)?

Do they seem to understand my situation, my problems and my goals? Have they explained what results and outcomes I can expect? Are these the results I’m looking for? Do I feel confident they can deliver?

Where’s the proof (Demonstrations, testimonials, etc.)?

Why You (Authority)?

Why should I choose them over the gazillions of other options that are just a mouse click away? What makes them different? Do they have relevant expertise, experience or education – or the right combination of all three?

Where’s the proof (testimonials, case studies, etc.)?

Why Now (Urgency)?

Do I really need to take action now (or can I afford to procrastinate)? Has the world changed in ways I didn’t realize that now make it imperative to act? Are they making such a compelling, strong, clearly-articulated argument that I know this is the right thing to do?

Where’s the proof (Research, statistics, expert opinions, etc.)?

Why Me (Fit)?

Do they work with people just like me (or is their offering so broad that I simply can’t tell whether their solutions will work for me)?

Where’s the proof (Case studies, testimonials, speaking my language, etc.)?

So how did you do?

You might be reassured to discover you’re already on the right track, and only need to make small adjustments. Or you might be shocked to realize just how much you’re missing!

Either way, I hope you found this exercise useful in evaluating your own Web site.

Help Them Buy Without Being Pushy

27 January 2012

You can’t pressure your Web site visitors into buying. They’re not a captive audience, so you have to grab their attention quickly, and then keep it with real value, not sales hype.

Rather than trying to manipulate, cajole, browbeat or force them to buy, create “buying frames” that explain the reasons for them to buy.

I’ll explain…

Everybody is asking these four questions:

  • Why this? What are the benefits of your offering?
  • Why you? What authority do you have for me to believe you?
  • Why now? What is the urgency for me to take action?
  • Why me? Why is this the right fit for me?

Before they buy, they must answer all four questions in their mind. You can help them by suggesting some answers.

Let’s consider each of these in turn.

“Why this” (benefits)

This is the standard sales technique of describing the benefits, not just the features, of your offerings. Features are “what this does”; benefits are “what that means for you”.

One simple way to convert features to benefits is to list each of the features in turn, then add the phrase “so that” or “which means that”, and then finish the sentence.

For example, if you’re considering the features of a car:

  • This car has cruise control… so that… you don’t get a speeding fine
  • The car has radio controls on the steering wheel… which means that… it’s safer because you’re not distracted while driving
  • This car has keyless entry… which means that… it’s faster to get into the car in an emergency – particularly for women alone at night

“Why you” (authority)

People buy from people they trust. Why should they believe you, your business and the people in your business?

Do you have testimonials from other happy customers, endorsements from well-known people, formal qualifications or practical experience?

Focus on the kind of authority that matters most for your customers – for example:

  • Some people respect celebrities, so get celebrity endorsements;
  • Doctors respect letters after your name, so pharmaceutical companies engage experts to talk to doctors about medicines;
  • Business owners respect experience more than qualifications, so prove your experience.

“Why now” (urgency)

You see this sort of marketing everywhere:

“Mid-season sale – two weeks only”

“Register now for the Early Bird special”

“Only 20 memberships available at this price”

“Closing down sale – all stock must go”

“New season fashions coming soon – current stock at bargain prices”

This is the motivator for them to take action now, rather than putting it off until later. It’s usually based on pain or pleasure – that is, the negative consequences of not taking action or the positive consequences of taking action.

This can be the most important factor that gets the sale; however, it can also be the most difficult to do, because it’s not always easy to do this without being manipulative.

If you genuinely do have a reason for making an urgent announcement, do so and your customers will respond. But if you keep doing this over and over again, they’ll soon grow weary and skeptical.

A more respectful approach is to explain why now, more than ever, your offerings are important and relevant for your customers. It’s not about forcing them to buy; it’s about explaining how their circumstances have changed – perhaps without them realising it.

For example:

  • A real estate agent could say, “There’s never been a better time to buy a house”, based on the strength of the property market.
  • An accountant could say, “The new tax laws could cost you thousands of dollars”.
  • A restaurant could say, “The economy is booming – come in and celebrate with your friends!” – or “Take your mind off the economic woes – come in and celebrate with your friends!”
  • A business consultant could say, “The Internet is making it easier for competitors to put you out of business”

In all these cases, it’s not enough to just state that claim; back it up with evidence.

“Why me” (fit)

Finally, explain why your customers are a perfect fit for your offerings. This means identifying, understanding and addressing a niche market.

Mass marketing is dead, folks! Look for smaller, targeted niches that you serve, and serve them well. The smaller your market, the better your products, and the more effective you can make your marketing.

People like knowing you understand them. Not just because they’re a member of homo sapiens, but because they are a single mother looking for part-time work, or an accountant working their way up to partner, or an Apple user wanting to date another user fan.

Here are some questions to ask yourself when writing your marketing material:

  • What makes them tick?
  • What makes them different from other people?
  • What differences are they proud of?

Then turn your attention to your product or service:

  • How have you tailored it to them?
  • Why is it more relevant, useful and valuable to them than to anybody else?

How do you put this into practice?

Now that you understand these four questions, look at the way you promote each product and service on your Web site. Do you answer all four questions in your potential customer’s mind? If not, change this now – it will make a big difference to your sales conversion.

How to Navigate the Internet Marketing Map

27 January 2012

Facebook has over 750 million users, Twitter has over 200 million, LinkedIn has reached 100 million, and now we have Google+ as well, with 25 million in its first month. You might be excused for despairing that you don’t have time to be active on them all.

The good news is: You don’t have to! Despite what a lot of people say, social media isn’t the be-all and end-all of your on-line presence.

Here’s what you do instead…

Think of your on-line presence like the solar system, with your Web site – the Sun – in the middle, and other planets orbiting around it. Here’s a simple three-stage Internet marketing strategy…

1. Build a solid Web site

First and foremost, you must have a good Web site. That means it needs to be current; it needs to reflects what you do; and it must help people get in touch with you.

Importantly, you must, must, MUST be able to update your Web site yourself. You won’t be updating it every day – or even every week – but when you want to update it, you must be able to do it immediately and at no cost.

2. Lead with value

The next stage – the innermost planets of your solar system – is to share your expertise on-line. Lead with value (that is, high-quality content), not with advertising, so that your site visitors see you as an expert before they even visit your Web site.

Broadly, there are five vehicles you can use for this: A blog, an e-mail newsletter, a podcast, an e-book or special report, and a YouTube video channel.

Don’t have time to do all five? No problem. Do just three: A blog, a newsletter and any one of the other three.

3. Invest in reputation

Being an expert is a good start, but it’s not enough. You also need to be recognised, which makes you an authority. So the third stage – the outermost planets in your solar system – is to build your reputation in other on-line places.

The Big Four, as I mentioned earlier, are Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+. There are also other on-line communities specific to your area of expertise.

You don’t have to spend all day here – and in fact, you can even automate some of this – but it’s worth investing time in building your reputation here (slowly at first).

It’s easier than you think!

OK, I admit it’s not easy to build the Web site, especially if you’re starting from scratch. But the rest of this plan is relatively easy to do, especially if you’re positioning yourself as an authority in your market.

So get started!

Creating Your Own Internet Money-Making Ideas

27 January 2012

The internet is a virtual world that is wide open for possibilities, including internet money-making ideas. If you imagine it, there’s probably a way to make money with it online. Here are just a few of the top internet money-making ideas – Some you can do without a personal website, and some that requires a website.

Probably some of the easier internet money-making ideas are those that don’t involve having your own website. Here are some examples to get your idea mill turning:

Selling items online through a reputable site like eBay. You simply list your items, and eBay will market them to bidders for a small fee. Also, there are programs online where you can get paid for surfing the internet as you normally do or to take online surveys.

Writing articles or reviews for online magazines or websites. This internet money-making idea is very easy because all kinds of publishing companies, magazines, and news sources need writers to enhance their online content, and write reviews of products and services.

You can also make money from playing online games, such as online bingo or poker. If you have your own website, there are a wider range of opportunities for making money on the internet, most of them revolving around advertisements and referral programs that you allow to be posted on your website.

The most popular way of making money through a website is through blogging. Bloggers with a large following of readers and frequent posting will often feature advertisements or paid reviews as a part of their blog, bringing them residual income.

If you have a non-blogging website, you can feature advertisements on your site, too. These can be pay- per-click ads, pay per impression (or view) ads, or pay per action ads. Each type pays the site owner a small fee for each action that is taken

One of the newer internet money-making ideas is due to the popularity of the electronic reader, sometimes called an e-reader. E-books are fairly inexpensive to publish, compared to their paper counterparts, so the initial overhead is very low. This gives you a larger profit margin as most of your investment is time, and not money. Thanks to the rise in sales of devices like the Kindle and Nook, more and more people are turning to electronic readers for books and magazines. If you write and publish a e-book, you can market it through your website for a profit, and give readers the option to purchase directly from you, and not a middleman retailer.

Whatever route you choose to go, there are so many internet money-making ideas out there – there is bound to be one that is right for you!

Simple Internet Marketing Strategies For Beginners

27 January 2012

So when it comes to internet marketing, you have to ask yourself a few questions. The first thing you need to ask is whether or not you’ve picked the niche first, and then selected the product. Nothing is more detrimental to your business than finding or creating a product to sell, and then trying to find people to sell it to.

This is the wrong way about marketing your business online. In fact, the same is true for offline marketing. All direct response marketing whether on the internet or offline simply means finding a hungry group of prospects to market to first, and then going off to find or create a product that can solve their problems immediately.

No matter what you sell, you will want to do a few things before you spend a dime on advertising. You have to make sure things are lined up and ready to go, so that you can spend less time with the trivial matters of your business, and spend more time with the things that will bring you 80% of your overall income.

I want to share with you a simple strategy for making more money in your online business. These tips are simple to use, and I use them everyday myself. In fact, here’s the first thing that you should be doing to promote your business online.

1) Start an email list

You want to start an email list because they will give you the greatest chance of getting them to buy from you. With a list, you can potentially make money everyday like clockwork. Imagine if you had a list of 50,000 leads in your email marketing funnel… how hard do you think it would be for you to make money off of these people everyday?

It wouldn’t be hard at all. Many people will go for your offer, and some just needs to be worked upon every so often until they buy. An email list is necessary if you want to get the most from your internet marketing efforts. Let’s take a look at another aspect of internet marketing that you will want to implement in your business today.

2) Social marketing

More and more people are signing up to social websites to interact with friends, build a follow, and even market their business. Right now Facebook and Twitter are the dominant players in the social marketing game, so if you’re not using them, you could potentially be missing out on a ton of traffic in your business.

Now the thing about social media traffic is that sometimes it’s not targeted. Because of this, you could drive 5,000 people to your website in a day from a social media site, and none of them buy anything from you. This is just common in the social marketing world, so your best bet is to try and generate a lead instead of trying to sell to them directly.

These 2 tips for making your internet business a success is something that you may have never thought of before, but you should be doing in order to make money with your website. Social media marketing is popular right now, and before you go out and spend money on advertising, try this first and see how well it does for you.

Good luck with using these tips to earn more money in your business today.

Internet Marketing Gems I Learned

27 January 2012

Is getting traffic to your website something that you absolutely do not know how to do? Some people feel that they’re business can be a huge success only if they know how to get a lot of traffic to their website. If this describes you, then I would like to help you out when trying to get lots of traffic to your website.

Now 2 years ago I bought this widely popular course on how to get tons of traffic to your website, and I admit it was really good. But I heard someone say that this course focuses on using your content to get free traffic – it’s not about strictly showing you where to advertise your website to get traffic.

I totally disagreed on that.

Without that course, I probably wouldn’t be here developing this lesson here today. I know the course works because I’ve tried it myself, and I know that I’ve gotten lots of traffic due to the techniques in the course. One thing that was really good about the course was the search engine optimization part of it.

SEO or search engine optimization is simply the process of taking your website, entering the meta tags about it, and creating content on your website around low competition keyword terms. But the lesson in the course that I bought was so thorough, that it made me look at SEO in a totally different perspective.

What you need to know about getting traffic to your website is that there are a multitude of ways to get it done. But none of these traffic strategies will work well for you unless you take action and use them in your business everyday. This is something that is very important, because if you don’t follow through on your traffic strategies, how do you expect to get a constant stream of traffic coming in everyday?

This is something that you need to think about before claiming that nothing works for your business. I’m willing to bet that the best marketing strategies out there will work wonders for you if you put them into overdrive. This is my model for my business. I don’t just do 1 strategy and call it a day. I do like 10 different strategies and put them all on overdrive.

You need to do the same thing for your business if you want it to work for you. Getting traffic can be made easy or hard – it’s totally up to you to find out for yourself. If you want traffic, you have to be willing to stick it out for the long haul. While there are many traffic strategies out there, only about 7-10 of them will bring you the most results that you are seeking.

Some of the strategies that you need to focus on are article marketing, video marketing, and forum marketing. These 3 traffic strategies play a big role in my internet marketing campaign. I’m willing to bet that if you put them into use, and use them big time… you’ll more than likely see the results that you are looking for in your internet business.

Take these tips and use them to have the success in your business that you have always dreamed of.

Good luck with using these internet marketing tips.

4 Steps to Getting More Sales Leads

27 January 2012

The Internet has changed the methods companies use to reach potential customers. No longer do we rely on the door-to-door salesman canvassing a neighborhood, but instead we deliver marketing messages directly to the niche of customers who might be interested in our products. By using content to generate leads we can increase the number and quality of these leads, encourage viral sharing and thus gain more leads, and nurture leads in a sales funnel until they become sales ready.

Here are four basic steps to getting those sales leads:

Step 1. Create a “lead lodestone“. A “lead lodestone” attracts visitors to your website/blog and also gives them a reason to subscribe. “Lead lodestones” can include such items as a free eBook, white paper, webinar or podcast, product trial etc. Place your “lead lodestone” prominently on your website with a strong call to action. Minimize distraction and encourage conversion by only asking for the user’s name and email address. Explain that you need an email address to fulfill their request and be sure to provide a link to your privacy policy.

Step 2. Send follow-up emails to your opt-ins offering additional educational, valuable content.

· Immediately: Follow-up with a“thank you” email that delivers the white paper, eBook, etc.

· Within a day:Follow-up with additional valuable material. This could include other white papers, case studies, eBooks, or product reviews. Do not try to hard sell. Go for the soft sell.

· Weekly:Follow-up with additional valuable material with a stronger call to action – such as signing up for a demo, webinar, or enewsletter. Strengthen your selling message but don’t over sell. The key is still to provide useful content with a small but defined business edge (i.e., sales offer). Also, encourage your readers to share your valuable content by placing social sharing buttons prominently on your email.

Step 3. Reutilize parts of your content, and repurpose to market your “lead lodestone” via other channels. Develop your content into short tips and post as articles, turn it into a video, or turn your video into a podcast, distill some of the content from your webinar into a short presentation, collect the Q&A from your webinar and publish as an article, create an infographic and post it, create a press release and distribute it. The point is: don’t give away the entire “lead lodestone”, but use it on other channels to entice even more new prospects to come to your site to register for the full “lead lodestone”.

Step 4. Incorporate your repurposed content into your Social Media Channels.Your RSS feed should be set up to syndicate the content that you post to your blog. Rework the content you’ve repurposed, post to your blog and your content will be posted (via blog post) to your RSS feed. Tweet about your new content. Create a custom tab on Facebook — post links to your content, post your infographic, create a survey or poll. Share status updates about your content on LinkedIn.

The essence of this strategy is that a company develops trust by delivering consistent, ongoing valuable information and with careful, nurturing will ultimately be rewarded business.

You can optimize the rate at which you generate sales leads by providing your website visitors with an enticing opt-in form, emailing value-driven content, and nurturing your prospects with additional content. Sales pressure should be carefully managed, allowing the prospect to tell you when they’re ready to buy.

Internet Business Plans – How to Make and Profit From Them

27 January 2012

Internet business plans are essential tools required of any online marketer. If you want to start an online business, you should have a plan to start with, just as you should have, for an offline business. This article will outline what internet business plans are and how to prepare and use them.

Any planning activity starts with an objective. You should know what you are planning for. Therefore, first set a goal. Decide what income you want to earn from your internet business. You can start with a modest target and can revise it upwards after your reaching it. You may start with something like $500 per month from your online business. The second step is to set a time frame for achieving it. You may not be able to reach your target immediately. You need a start up time and in the initial stages, you may be experimenting with some ideas and the results may not be forthcoming quickly. So set a time frame of 2 or 3 months to achieve this. But whatever is the time frame, make it specific. You can say, ” I will earn my first $500 before April 30, 2012 and will keep earning $500 every month thereafter.”

Once you know your destination, you can map the route. How are you going to reach your target. You may decide to take up affiliate marketing. If you can market a product that pays you a commission of $25 per sale, you will need to make 20 sales per month to earn $500 per month. That’s about one sale per day. Does it look reasonable and achievable? If the answer is yes, you can proceed further. Otherwise, you will have to think of additional strategies. You may have to choose a product with a higher commission per sale or you may have to plan for income through other sources like AdSense revenue so that you will be able to reach your target.

Now that you have decided to market a product, decide what product you are going to promote. Do some research on choosing the right niche, one you find easy to work with and with a high potential. You should then choose what product or products you are going to promote. Your choice will be determined by the popularity of the product and the income potential.

The next stage is the most crucial. You have to devise a strategy to promote the product. Are you going to use a free website or host your own website? This will depend on your assessment of how much you could earn using a free website and using your own website. Secondly, you should also decide on the method of promoting your site.
